Half of bicoastal pitting Lionsgate Films lawsuit against The Weinstein Co. for distribution of a Push Based on a novel by Sapphire was rejected in a court in New York, court documents show today. Both companies sued in Los Angeles and New York, 4 February, saying he had an agreement with manufacturers to distribute the film based on the story of a young, illiterate women who are victims of incest and trying to find his way in 1980 Harlem. The film starring Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz and Gabourey Sidibe, who portrays Precious Jones, the central character in the film. Lionsgate's first judge, denounced Weinstein in Los Angeles a few hours before TWC filed its complaint against Lionsgate to New York. TWC also separately sued the agents for the producers, alleging fraud. On 6 May, a judge in New York dismissed the lawsuit against the Weinstein Lionsgate. In this way, Weinstein rejected the request that New York is the most appropriate place for the litigation to take place because most of the witnesses live there. The judge said that the parties have a presence in both New York and Los Angeles and frequently travel between the two cities. In his suit Los Angeles, Lionsgate is seeking a ruling from the judges who owns the rights to distribute push the United States and in Canada. Weinstein lawyers say the company is venture agreement with the producers of films and that Lionsgate interfered. But Lionsgate counters that the producers have signed a written agreement stating that he had no written or verbal agreement with Weinstein.
